CREATIONS BY ELENA
I was born in Venezuela to Italian parents. At 13 years of age I moved to the USA to attend boarding school, first in the state of Missouri and then in New York State. There I learnt to speak English and completed my High School Diploma.
I was always involved in the arts programs. I designed the Year books for the school and participated in a lot of contests; winning a couple of 1st prices for drawings and writing poems in calligraphy. When I graduated my parents decided to immigrate to Canada and I have been here since the early 70s.
I attended the Brunswick Arts School of Toronto, followed by a BA degree from York University. I met my wonderful husband in 1976, we were married 6 months later and we have three amazing children and 3 grandchildren. I worked full time in the Travel and Airline Industry until a career change led me into the Optical industry. I am constantly taking art courses, drawing, painting and in the last 5 years sculpting.
It was in the late 1900’s that I first became interested in clay; I began by colouring
already made bisque pieces and taking part time classes at a local Guild. Being able to create my own pieces was so fulfilling. Becoming a member of the guild was the next natural step.
Now I mostly work on sculptures which I find so rewarding. I am able to express myself through my pieces by shaping them and making them come alive.
These are a few of the Arts and Craft Shows in which I have participated
